Face-to-face lessons are available for all group and private lessons.
Please contact reception for availability.
The reception is open Monday to Friday 11am – 7pm, Saturday 9am – 2pm.

Due to the current rapid increase of positive COVID cases, the Victorian government has re-introduced restrictions. https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/sensible-steps-reduce-testing-queues-and-transmission
The adult education sector has been advised strongly to work and study from home if possible until Australia Day.
Students are encouraged to move all lessons online until then and await further government assessment closer to Australia Day to avoid being exposed to COVID.
We’re happy to continue face-to-face lessons if they choose to.

We’re excited to let you know that as of Monday November 8, all face-to-face lessons at 258 Little Bourke Street will be available for students who are fully vaccinated.
Important Safety Information
The safety of our staff and the students is our number one priority. Our COVID-safe Plan complies with Victorian Government directives to ensure our classrooms can operate safely. For this reason, we ask for the following:
- Everyone attending our lessons must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This is a condition of entry and you should carry with you evidence of your vaccination status.
- Ensure that your digital vaccination certificate is linked to your Service Victoria app for smooth and prompt entry into the venue. Instructions on how to link your certificate with the Service Victoria App can be found here .
- Scan in via the Service Victoria QR code when you arrive.
- All those aged 12 and over must wear a fitted face mask in the classroom.
Please, if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, do not visit our school. Get tested and isolate until you receive a negative result.
We do not tolerate aggressive or abusive behaviour towards staff or other students.

Victorian government has announced an extension of the lockdown.
Some restrictions would ease when the state hits a 70% first dose vaccination rate – expected about 23 September.
Face-to-face lessons will remain online until 23 September.
Online lessons will operate as normal.

Geez, a two-week extension of the current lockdown have been announced.
Face-to-face lessons will remain online until 2nd September.
Online lessons will operate as normal.

The lockdown has been extended for a week until 19th of August.
Face-to-face lessons will remain online until then.

5 August 2021
Oh no, Victoria has entered its sixth lockdown starting 8pm tonight in response to unexpected new mystery cases of COVID-19 in recent days.
All JM face-to-face lessons will switch to online lessons for the next week. Students will be notified by email. Online lessons will operate as normal.
27 July 2021
The Victorian Government has announced that the lockdown will be lifted by 11.59pm tonight.
Private / semi-private lessons will resume to face-to-face at JM from Wednesday 28th of July.
Please make sure to wear masks and sign-in with QR code when arriving in order to protect our teachers, staff, yourself and your loved ones as the Delta variant spreads very easily.
Group lessons will stay ONLINE for at least another week (aiming to resume Tuesday 3rd of August.)
We will keep an eye on restrictions lifting and update on Tuesday the 3rd about resuming group face-to-face lessons.
Online lessons will continue as usual.
19 July 2021
The lockdown has been extended for another 7 days.
All JM face-to-face lessons will switch to online until Tuesday 27 July.
Online lessons will operate as normal.
16 July 2021
For the fifth time, the State Government announced that Victoria will undergo lockdown from 11:59pm on 15 July until 11:59pm on Tuesday 20 July.
All JM face-to-face lessons will switch to online lessons until Wednesday 21 July. Students should receive emails by now. Online lessons will operate as normal.

Further easing of restriction has been announced for 18th June 2021.
Current students should have received an email by now. Please contact us to arrange face-to-face lessons.
New/prospective students who are after face-to-face lessons will have to go on a waiting list.

9 June 2021
Restrictions will be partially eased from Thursday 1o June.
However, due to the advice and guidelines provided by the Victorian government, we advise all students to continue online lessons until further notice of the full easing of restriction.
For students who are having serious difficulty with online lessons, please contact admin by Friday the 11th before 4pm. Depending on the teacher’s availability, we might be able to run limited lessons starting from Tuesday the 15th of June.
We will be closed on Monday the 14th due to the Queen’s Birthday.

Face-to-face lessons starting 28th May will be conducted online due to the circuit breaker lockdown announced by the Victorian government.
Lessons will resume when advised to do so.

5-day lockdown to conclude 11:59pm tonight. Face-to-face lessons will resume 18 February. Online lessons will operate as normal.

Face-to-face lessons between 13 – 17 February will be conducted online due to the circuit breaker 5-day lockdown announced by the Victorian government. Online lessons will operate as normal.

23 November 2020
We will open for face-to-face lessons ONLY FOR PRIVATE LESSONS from Tuesday 1st December 2020. Online lessons will run as normal. Students should have received their email by now. We will adhere to the same COVID safe practice – hygiene, social-distancing, COVID-App installations as per June 2020. Please contact us if you need more details.

Victoria is entering stage 4 shut down starting Wednesday 6th August.
Our online lessons will be conducted as usual.
We’re offering 5% off the first term for new enrolment and 10% off the second term.

A 2nd lockdown will be implemented across the Melbourne Metro area starting from tomorrow night (8th July 2020) for 6 weeks.
Our office will be closed again to the public until further notice by the Victorian government.
We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

We are pleased to announce that Japanese Melbourne is open for face-to-face lessons starting Monday 22 June 2020. Online lessons will run as normal.
To provide a safe environment for both our students and teachers, we will only open on certain days for private / semi-private students. Reception is open Monday 11am – 7pm and Saturday 9am – 2pm although we advise calling before visiting to avoid unnecessary contact.
The following safety precautions will be implemented:
Social distancing
Lessons will only be conducted in classrooms which are spacious enough to keep more than 1.5m between you and your teacher.
Hygiene
Hand sanitizer stations will be provided at various entrances. We ensure common areas and classrooms are disinfected before every lesson. Our teachers and staff are instructed to limit contact with each other and will put masks on / off upon requests.
Monitoring symptoms
Teachers and staff’s wellbeing will be constantly monitored. Those who show flu-like symptoms will be directed to stay home immediately.
COVID-19 App
Any of our teachers and staff who work at school will download the COVID-19 App in order to minimize the risk of spreading.

Starting 24th March 2020, in response to the Australian government’s restriction against COVID-19, all lessons (group and private) of Japanese Melbourne will be conducted online.
